But you know, how can you trust this?

Like you know you know, how can people be making these judgments and how do we know they're right?

And the thing I always say is it's it's really deeply kind of weird because when you mark traditionally with a rubric, it feels incredibly objective.

Because you have this tick list and you're checking things off and you're saying as you just said, you've got a fronted adverbial and a mixture of variety of sentence structures and blah blah blah.

But what we know when people mark with rubrics is they're actually they're incredibly inconsistent.

And when I say inconsistent, people often think when I talk about inconsistency with traditional marking, they think the problem is, oh, you've got like one marker who's just not very good and the other marker is very good.

And what we have to try and do is get the less good markers to agree with the good marker.

You know, we've got some expert and our aim is to get everybody in line with the expert good marker.

Now that is part of the problem, but actually the problem is even harder than that.

The problem is not just that different markers disagree with each other, the problem is

that individual markers disagree with themselves.

So what I mean by that is take that example, you know, Frankie's piece that got greater debt.

If you gave that piece to a hundred markers and got them all to market,

Well, they wouldn't all agree with each other, that would be for the first thing.

But the other kind of frightening thing is if you came back a week later and asked them all again, a lot of them would change their minds.

Right.

So they've done research on this where you give a marker a hundred pieces to mark, they mark them all, you come back a week later, give them them a hundred again.

They don't give them the same mark.

And if you're being honest with yourself, do you really think you are capable of being that consistent?
