know i was a student of political philosophy and i know they studied hobbes and locke and rousseau so what was best for the nation was was and what drove really everything they did now politics seems to be so much about self about you know what's good for me what's good for my tribe what happened i don't know that there was a sort of a switch somewhere that
So related to that, you bring up the importance of a concept you call virtue.
And you actually describe virtue as really a gift that religion brings to politics.
Explain what you mean by virtue.
Libertarianism is a concept that a lot of people are attracted to because it means less government intervention in our daily lives.
But you say there's something missing in libertarianism.
What is that?
One of the complexities as we think of kind of us and them and we are future generations or people that don't vote yet.
And let's just take entitlements as an example, which, you know, some would say is a way of, you know, the whole doing the best for the whole that is helping people who need help.
But on the other hand, if you just take a look at demographics,
they're changing pretty substantially and real compromise is required between left and right of people who are voting now, but people who aren't voting yet.
There was a big attempt at compromise years ago that had seemed like a lot of promise, Simpson Bowles.
