from where I sit, that people from different parties in Congress know each other, eat with each other, see each other as human beings either.

welcome back this is dan hesse and i'm talking with senator jack danforth about how religion can bring us together instead of pushing us apart so we've talked about success what about happiness what does happiness mean to you jack what makes you happy no that's so softball you just you just tossed me a softball thank you happiness is a long and good marriage
and that is the heart of it all happiness is sally danforth i'll have to meet sally sometime that's uh that's wonderful you are a very fortunate person you bet by the way uh kind of related to it how important do you think spirituality is for most people to achieve happiness as as an element of happiness
the common good and we from an american perspective we occupy the planet with a lot of other countries as well kind of the entire world and and we are considered kind of the leader of the free world so you know this country plays a very important role
You followed a previous guest of mine on the show, John Negroponte, as US ambassador to the United Nations.
How effective is the UN in your view?
And what, if anything, could be done to make the UN even more effective and more relevant in, we'll say, achieving the common good of our planet?
On the subject of the world and following up on, we'll call it religion versus politics.
I know you're not a Catholic, but for the first time, the Catholic Pope is an American.
What do you think is an appropriate role and perhaps a role that the Pope should not play in the political realm?
