What do central banks do?
What's their importance?
What role do they play?
Well, following up with the concept of currency and central banks,
Some central banks in Sweden, China, India, and other countries, they've issued kind of their own digital currencies.
I think they're called CBDCs.
How have those trials, for lack of a better term, how have those gone?
And what do you think the future of CBDCs will be?
Well, for folks who watch shows on TV like Ozark, they know one of the,
benefits of cash is that it can be laundered and there's a certain amount of privacy that comes with cash.
Are there digital systems that will still protect privacy or is privacy just going to be something in our past and people will accept that?
You talked about commercial banks and their role in the economy, basically taking short-term deposits, turning them into longer-term loans, in essence, converting savings into investment.
A lot of people seem to think or you read things that the fintechs are going to make the traditional banks as we know them obsolete, but on the other hand, you look at the big
banks anyway, the JP Morgans of the world, and they just seem to be getting bigger and stronger all the time.
What do you think the future portends for traditional banks?
