Yeah, and I think it's because they're silenced by multiple people at multiple levels.

There's the initial obvious issue of complaining about a problem in their house or their flat and then the landlord not listening, which is kind of – people listen to this, but they relate to that –

Then it gets bigger than that.

It's like, well, why does the landlord think they can get away with not acting on this?

And then you start digging in and you realise, well, the entire political system has been designed to ignore them with no consequences.

Until you have moments like Grenfell or like the death of a child in Rochdale.

You have moments where you think...

This system has just been revealed to be completely broken to the point where people are dying in dangerous, unsafe housing.

And yet we just keep going.

I kind of ask in the book, what do you do when you reach a turning point?

But you just keep driving.

You end up in a situation we're in now where you have people in homes that are so dangerous, they fear that their children are becoming ill and they could actually die.

And yet we don't do anything about it.

The majority of my career up until this investigation, which was meant to be a kind of one-off story that accidentally became this scandal and then in this investigation, was spending time trying to convince people to come on television to talk about things.

So you know there's a problem, you know there's an issue, you may have come across a couple of people

um but what you're trying to do is work out all right can it will anyone come on tv and talk openly about this problem because most people for the majority of people who do not want to expose themselves like that this was the opposite the exact opposite of every experience i'd had as a journalist this was hundreds and then thousands and continue to come in on the way to this recording i had three emails from social housing tenants

People saying, can you please come and see the state of my home?

Can you please come and film it?

Can you please interview me?

And the reason they were doing that is because they literally had nowhere else to go because the system had been designed to shut them off, as I say, silence them.
