That's exactly it.

The book really isn't about housing, hence why the tagline is more broader about how governments have betrayed us because it is ultimately... I learn more about politics and the way this country works spending the first few weeks on housing estates across the country than I ever did in a decade we're reporting on politics.

Because I started to learn about the legislation and the policies that were being passed that were affecting real people.

That had nothing to do with what Boris Johnson was doing that day.

And Boris Johnson, by the way, didn't understand that policy he was announcing either.

That's why they didn't want me to ask it, because even the politicians themselves often don't understand the policies they're announcing.

And that's part of the problem.

Yes, and I think part of that is a good thing.

I think part of one of the reasons I think we were able to do the kind of stuff that you were suggesting earlier, maybe kind of tipping on the side of advocacy, is that there is less scrutiny on TV because of the model of the way we're funded.

We're also smaller, which makes us more nimble.

We have to focus on a handful of stories.

The BBC is still, by the way, I'm a big champion of the BBC.

I think we will regret going down the road we're currently going down.

But what ITV allows us to do is be a lot more nimble and it allows us to stick on a story and hammer it and hammer it because we can't do everything.

We don't try and do everything.

So there's a practical reason I think why ITV ends up in the situation sometimes that we're in and we don't second guess ourselves because we worry what the Daily Mail are going to say about us.

So there's elements of that kind of sometimes that lack of scrutiny can also kind of be important.

But I also think that I totally agree with you that the BBC is not the only provider of public service broadcasting and public service journalism in this country.

And where I think the newspaper industry is heading, and in some cases has headed already, the importance of having a public service broadcaster that is doing stuff
