Carney said the deals reached with China rectified just a handful of issues that have emerged over the last couple of years.
During his recent trip to China, Carney got a deal that would have Beijing drop tariffs on some Canadian agricultural and seafood products.
In return, Canada would allow 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles into the Canadian market at 6.1% tariff, down from 100%.
Carney points out that under the Canada-U.S.-Mexico agreement, there is a special clause that restricts member countries from entering free trade agreements with non-market economies such as China.
