So yeah, Atanas was trying to build his business just as the yogurt world was on the brink of a revolution.

I mean, I remember the rise of Greek yogurt, Eliza, and it felt like it came out of nowhere.

I'd never heard of it, and then one day it was the only yogurt in the supermarket.

The first major Greek yogurt brand to hit American shelves was Faye.

That's the ad we just heard.

That was in 1998.

Faye, you may have seen it.

It's the one spelled F-A-G-E.

Now, Faye is a Greek brand.

It was imported from Greece to the U.S.

And Faye is a strained yogurt.

Okay, that means some of the liquid whey is strained out to make it thicker.

But Greek yogurt as a category didn't really get going until another brand came on the scene.

Yeah, and when he looked around, he saw that strained yogurt had already been marketed as Greek because of Faye.

So he decided to market his yogurt as Greek, too.
