It's one of the things I say on the album is it ain't a scrap when a boxer's your dad trying to make up for all the losses he had.

What is the line that you draw there when you're aware of men feeling like it's okay to put hands on women?

I mean, it's such a giant thing, especially in Australia, right?

Why do we not talk about it?

We talk about everything else, everything.

The things that shouldn't be on the front page get hot property, big real estate.

Why do we not talk about this systemic issue that's been around for so, so long now, even for the benefit of the fellas to understand that this might be happening and your mate may or may not be responsible for it, or they may or may not have been in a household where this happened.

It's been a big driving thing for me to explain that

Men are around this, even if they're not perpetrators, you know, they're around it and we're aware of it and we should be vocally calling that out.

And it's my responsibility to do that as a person who.

saw it and is is the product of it you know even though you're on the other side of the world could you see a kind of anxiety and fear that remained in your mother fear of of of your father of course yeah so when we left it was a case of not talking to any of that side of my family because we couldn't tell them where we were because he was a pretty resourceful guy and in doing so that cut you off from the culture too exactly so you missed out on all the good stuff

Yeah.

Yeah.

And she, again, she was hyper aware of that.

She knew what that was going to be.

And she only had as much as she had to give me, you know, which was like 12 cassettes of dreaming stories that we would listen to over and over and stuff.

And there was only so much you can give, you know, and, and she definitely gave it.

That's for sure.

So over time that your mum eventually brought you both back to Australia.

Yeah.
