I mean, the run differential is a useful measure, but you have to balance it towards everything you know about a team because there are reasons to think that there are actually underperforming players on the Jays who could be playing better than they have and make that run differential bigger.

So there's a lot of things at play here.

And again, what it comes down to is even let's say that the Jays truly have outperformed their run expectation by six wins.

Well, there's no magical god out there that's making everything even out at the end.

So you would expect things to even out going forward, but they still had those six games, which are a lot.

I would, especially when you consider where the team actually is.

This isn't a team that's like coming out of a long rebuild with a lot of young talent and they can say, oh, we don't want to risk 2027 at this point.

But you look at the Jays roster and a lot of the players they have who are excelling are not going to be around or they're going to be significantly older.

I mean,

I guess everyone's significantly older.

But in baseball terms, the Jays are mostly a fairly old team.

You look at the three top pictures in the staff, they're all in their 30s.

Two of them are free agents after this year or next.

Bo Bichette's a free agent at the end of the season.

George Springer's 35.

There is some age on this team, and that kind of increases the urgency, I think, to push your chips.

When you have fewer hands ahead of you, you more aggressively put those chips into the pot.

When it simulates a season, it simulates the rest of the games a million times with different team strengths.

So what happens is I run the million season simulation 60 times, and each time adding one win to a different team or two wins to a different team and seeing how that affects the race.
