He basically skewers the entire industry, which I was gushing over.

I love it, every second of it.

He talks about the pros and cons of getting a booth at Black Hat as a security vendor.

And the two big takeaways I want everyone to remember about this talk, even if you don't go and watch it.

First is if you go to Black Hat and you walk up to a booth and it's like IBM's or Intels or Trend Micro or any of these massive vendors that have been around for like 15, 20 years, and the booth is 20 foot by 20 foot and it's a giant ball pit, and there's pretty girls in bikinis dancing around, and they encourage you to get in the ball pit and like throw balls at the girls, and the girls throw balls at you, and everybody giggles and laughs and has a great time.

And then they give you a ticket to their party, and then they scan your badge so that now they can send you spam forever.

And then you go back to work the

Next week and you buy their shit, you're not buying their shit on its merit.

You're buying their shit because the pretty girl from the ball pit told you to.

You're buying their shit because of a gimmick.

And that's how the industry tends to work.

And that's why to your Dart Trace story, sending pretty girls to go talk to old white guys and have them buy things is a functionally effective way to get those old white guys to buy stuff because they're in control.

of budgets and to both of our previous points, they don't give a shit about security.

They don't care.

They just they have a boxes to check.

And as long as the boxes get checked and the stock doesn't tank, they get their bonus at the end of the year.

All they care about is getting that bonus.

And so as long as they don't do anything that puts them in the news and they get a bad PR cycle, and as long as they buy whatever's in the top right hand of the Gartner Magic Quadrant or whatever.

It's a phrase, nobody get fired for buying IBM.
