I'm just curious what their pitch was.
They're like, Oh, it was this pen test kind of thing and they were charging ten percent or f seven percent less than you were charging.
And among the things they wanted done was driving around the county to twelve different places to physically do land assessments on every like here's a a reservoir.
They they have these little reservoirs and every reservoir
is either part of a water treatment plant or part of it's like an intermediary reservoir for whatever it gets piped into one reservoir and gets hit by the sun and that sterilizes or whatever and then it gets pumped elsewhere.
And so they had a bunch of these facilities all over the county and part of the ask was driving to each one and physically going to the fucking shed where they have all the equipment that the PLCs and the SCADA and the OT environment that manages that reservoir, plug it into it f manually physically with Ethernet, and do a tiny
LAN assessment on two PLCs, a solar panel, and one tiny server or something.
And I was like, okay, so that's gonna be like several days of driving around the county, and it's gonna be in a hotel room, cost of rental car, all this stuff, and I'm factoring all this stuff in.
And I'm like, how is this other company not losing their ass on this deal?
And the only possible explanation is that they're giving this customer a sweetheart deal because the person who they're sending out is only being paid peanuts.
And do you trust the person being paid peanuts in an OT environment where if you breathe on it wrong, it crashes?
Because the problem with OT environment is that you and you've probably heard this before.
Skaty equipment and PLCs and stuff were written by companies that decided in their infinite wisdom that they weren't going to use something as troublesome and as ornery as the Linux kernel to deal with their networking stack.
They would write their own.
Right.
Yes.
And so essentially the easiest way to wrap your head around what these things physically are and what they represent is it's like a rectangle that like this.
It looks like a half of a shoebox, and it's got a whole bunch of screws with like little plates, you know, the kind that you attach wires to along the bottom and along the top.
And it's essentially it's just a shitload of relays.
It's like a gigantic custom Raspberry Pi, where instead of having GPIO pins, you have these huge industrial, you put your clippies here for the big fat wires because they're the actual amper.
