And you guys have obviously known him for a while.
He's been through his troubles.
How much have you been involved, maybe trying to give him advice, trying to walk him through it to kind of get out of the funk that it's been?
You guys have all talked about culture, and I don't know that anyone wants to run from the fact that maybe things had kind of gotten away from what you'd like.
A lot of drama around this team the last couple of years, watching it from the outside, and in some cases you've been on the ice in practice with the people involved.
What's your take on what you were witnessing and how it got to that point?
Ryan, I know one of the narratives around your potential candidacy for this job when the process began was, is he cutthroat enough?
You know, and you're certainly known as a guy that's loyal and, you know, build relationships and things like that.
So there is a question out there that can you make the tough decision?
You've been asked twice about Adam already, that type of decision.
You haven't had to do it yet.
How comfortable are you that you'll be able to?
Well, I think it's a little bit of a false narrative of the people that work directly with me and contact every day.
I think one thing I do do is create a space in between that eventually I've got to let people know that I don't want them to perform well because it looks good on me.
I want them to perform well because I have their best interest.
it allows me to create a safe space of conversation.
So you can talk to players or coaches or trainers or staff that I've had a lot of difficult conversations with and some hard, honest conversations, but just because I'm an in-the-fire manager doesn't mean that it's micromanaging or that
I just, I like being around it.
It creates a space then to make those difficult decisions and to be able to say, we talked about this.
