Really big news in the Pilbara.
Planned strike action today at mining giant BHP's Port Hedland terminal in Western Australia.
after the unions, BHP and the industrial umpire, the Fair Work Commission, met without coming to an agreement this week.
So it's expected that about 200 operations workers will proceed with a planned strike action today.
Why is this so big, Alicia?

Why are we even talking about this?
This is really substantial because not only is Australia's most profitable mining company, world's biggest miner, there hasn't been a strike in this geographic area for a very long time.
Strikes are very difficult to achieve in Australia.
You have to go through a lot of legal hoops first.
There's a lot of forced mediation.
There's a lot of chats that you have to have first.
They haven't been able to get to an agreement.
They're clearly far enough apart that we're now at strike action.
What does it mean for BHP and other big miners that we are seeing the first substantial strike action since the turn of the millennium?

They've just posted record idle production levels.
and they're headed for a strike as well.
