So that's within the kind of standard deviation of statistics.
Now, this doesn't gel with the reality of Telstra's data, which says that there's about 14 million calls to 000 every year and about 4,000 to 5,000 of them are terminated for reasons that they cannot work out.
So the perception is really strong that people can't access triple zero when they need to, even if the reality is that these outages are thankfully very rare.
After this research went out, the regulator sought information about how the survey was completed.
So the consumer group gave that methodology.
They got the research company involved.
They kind of gave the questions.
But this happened at the same time as a lot of the industry seemed to be pushing for this as well.
It created certainly an impression that was ventilated at previous Senate hearings that the regulator was more concerned about the perception of
access to 000 than actually the reality of outages that were occurring both at Optus and subsequently at Telstra.
They issued pretty substantial legal threats for non-compliance with giving this information.
They include imprisonment for individuals and substantial penalties, even though the consumer group and the research company both said they'd kind of given the information.
So
Tangential to tomorrow's discussion, but certainly an aspect of it that ACMA, the regulator of the media and of kind of essential communications more generally, very concerned about the perception of access to triple zero as well as the reality of it.
