And so the Me Too movement, part of the voice that I heard with the Latinas was like, no, we should have a right to be beautiful and to be respected and to do this and still not be abused.
And again, it's that fine line of modesty and provocation.
So I feel that the real work that we need to do is helping women realize what the real value of our body is, that it is not a currency.
Because sometimes we want to use it as currency, not sexually, but for other things.
We're cute, we'll smile, so we will get this, and we think it's up to that.
But what we're doing is really using it as transaction, as something that can be negotiated.
And then that gets us in trouble because it is sending a message.
We're not sending the full message, but we're starting to entertain some of that.
And I feel that that's, you know, and also our identity, that we were created with a purpose and with value and with worth, regardless of what's being said to us.
So the therapy work, the counseling work, the trauma work that we need to do goes far beyond
Into dismantling and revealing all of the lies that were told to us as little girls by our parents, by our grandparents.
There were years that I did not take my daughter back to the Dominican because she had put on some weight.
And I knew, I knew that one of the grandfathers was going to call her a cow.
That was his thing.
Oh, you've turned into a cow.
Right.
And I did not want my daughter to be exposed to that.
So those are some of the issues and the trauma.
And it sounds like nothing, but those are the labels that stick with you and then take you in a route of ending, you know, lost as an adult.
