Louis Charles the Dauphin was the youngest child of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI.
In 1789, he became heir to the throne when his older brother died, just as the French Revolution was starting.
And he was thrown from the grandest palace in Europe,
into this awful medieval fortress.
It was called the Temple Tower.
It's in the east of Paris, near the Bastille.
But of course, when his father died, this little eight-year-old boy becomes king of France, and all this sort of anger and fury descends on the head of this innocent young boy.
What eventually happens to him is almost obscene in its cruelty and inhumanity.
