Peggy is freaked out.
It's like somebody is pushing it, yet no one is there.
Instinctively, she puts her hands out with all her strength, pushes the heavy, solid object back into place.
But as soon as she steps away, it moves again, sliding back to water.
What the hell?
She now puts all of her weight against it, but this time she can't budge it at all.
It's like the chest of drawers is fighting back, resisting her.
Peggy is literally shaking with fear now.
This is not normal.
She grabs all four kids, still in their pyjamas.
They rush next door to ask their neighbours, Mr and Mrs Nottingham, for help.
Vic Nottingham answers the door.
He's a big, solid guy, a roofer by trade, practical, cheery, the kind of bloke that you need in a crisis.
He heads straight over to see what's going on.
And as he walks into the Hodgson's house, he hears that knocking sound again.
The rhythm follows him wherever he goes.
It seems to come from all around, like it's inside the walls or trapped somehow beneath the floorboards.
