Vic doesn't know what's happening, but he's sufficiently rattled to call the police.
Their first question is, have you been drinking, sir?
But Vic is sober, and he's so clearly unsettled that the local station agree to send two officers around.
They arrive at 1 a.m.
on the 1st of September.
One of the officers is WPC Carolyn Heaps, and her sworn statement of what happens next makes for incredible reading.
In her report, she describes standing in the living room as the lights flicker again.
Then the knocking sound comes from everywhere around her, and her eye is drawn across the room to a chair standing by the sofa, a chair that now seems to be almost juddering from side to side.
And then she sees that chair slide across the floor about four feet, over a metre.
WPC Heaps checks the chair for wires.
She even places a marble on the floor next to it to see if it will roll in the same direction the chair went.
It doesn't.
She has apparently just witnessed an item of furniture move itself across the room.
She makes a decision.
This is not a police matter, she says.
You can't arrest a ghost.
Boom.
Kieran, my goodness, this must be one of the most trustworthy witness statements ever in paranormal history.
