Do you think it had just gone over the posters?
I just thought it had gone over, I just didn't know.
Yeah, for me personally, it was almost like I was somebody else, I was copying somebody, I was emulating somebody who I'd been watching, you know, growing up as a kid.
And I don't know who that person is, it could be a combination of players at different times.
And I think, you know, for those who criticise my career, I think that was probably one of the problems with me.
I never sort of grew into myself, you know, and became the player that I was, you know, destined to be.
It was almost sort of deep down I was emulating people that I'd watched growing up and that's the only way I can explain the goals that I've scored.
Not at the time, but later on in my career when I was over at Manchester City and that record was actually building up.
It carried on, didn't it?
Yeah, it was mentioned to me then.
And it dawned on me, I realised, OK, yeah, every time I've scored, I've gone home, be it on the coach on an away game or jumped in the car.
I remember going to bed just feeling brilliant about it.
There was never a time where I've scored and we've lost and I'm like, oh, but we lost, though.
I always had that feeling like, yeah, we've done well.
My goal counted for something.

It never got said whilst I was at Aston Villa, obviously, because I wasn't aware of the record.
But it's funny you say that, Ben.
When I was at City, it was mentioned quite a lot, especially the younger players that was coming through the ranks at the time.
