James Heydrich, the Kung Fu psychic, went on the nationally syndicated show That's Incredible in late 1980.
Heydrich, using the alias Sum Chai, once again demonstrated his powers on camera.
A short time later, the tabloid star profiled Heydrich.
In a full page article, the writer said Heydrich's powers included healing headaches with just a touch.
Heydrich told the tabloid he drew his mystical energies from being around children.
Next came another national TV appearance on That's My Line, opposite game show host Bob Barker.
Barker offered Heydrich $10,000 if he could prove it.
So Heydrich again made a pencil spin and flipped phone book pages without touching them.
But this time, producers of the show brought on a professional magician named James Randy.
Randy said Heydrich was just blowing on the pencil and pages.
He spread bits of styrofoam around the phone book and asked Heydrich to repeat the performance.
Heydrich knelt, examined the table,
then stood and shook his head.
This uh setback didn't shake Heydrich's hardcore fans like Tom Jackson.
