I was in youth theatre as a kid.
So I lived close by the Chichester Festival Theatre, which is a 1400-seater producing house.
It's massive.
It puts stuff into the West End all the time.
It's an amazing theatre.
It still is.
and they had a youth theatre in the summer and learnt the practicalities of production and how things get put together at a youth theatre level and then I carried on through that and theatre sort of taught me all of the stuff that I kind of use every day still.
Well, the main thing I took from theatre, which people really underestimate, is that people, when you're working on feature films, people are like, oh, feature film, there's hundreds of people, we've got to do it, we've got to do it now.
It's a really high pressure.
And it's no different to theatre.
Because everyone thinks theatre's a bit like the poor relative and, oh, it doesn't matter if it goes wrong.
Of course it matters if it goes wrong.
It's a live show.
It goes from beginning to end.
In many ways, it's more complex because you're doing one hour in act one and one hour in act two.
And if you have a complicated show, which has technical aspects like a lot of the stuff that runs in the West End now, there's so many things that can go wrong.
So the live thing of do or die is what it taught me.
When you're a kid and all you've ever wanted to do is work on Muppet features, and you're 19 years old and there you are stood with the people that you've been reading about for, you know, 10 years, whatever, more.
It was just extraordinary.
I know it's that pinch me moment of going, you can't believe that it's all happened so quickly.
