We had we had great fun.

I rem was remembering the other night one stunt that we pulled we the there was a national party club on campus and uh a group of us decided that we would attend the National Party AGM on campus.

It was actually a branch of the National Party, which we did and took it over and and elected ourselves as President and Vice President Secretary, etcetera, and then issued a press statement calling on the workers and peasants of New Zealand.

to unite and overthrow the government.

And uh yeah

Eventually the national party decided that wasn't quite their taste.

But th there were lots of you know, those sorts of things were w w were going on and uh

Uh it was great fun to be involved in, but it also was a time of having the ability to think deeply uh about issues and and get involved in social issues uh was very much part of the university environment, which I think regrettably it's harder for students to do now because they've they're all working, got so much more to do, it's mo so much more pressure on them.

I remember you sent me some clips of you on the front line and protesting and uh I think you sent me one a w around the um the South African tour. voice-verified

well I mean there'd been uh a long history uh of uh resistance to sporting contacts with South Africa, uh, right back to uh early days and uh you know in I think it was in nineteen sixty when I was you know ninety nine, uh there was a

a major uh fight back against uh the fact that uh Maori couldn't join the all blacks to go to South Africa.

The South Africans wouldn't have them.

And and then they relented a little bit and uh I think it may have been Brian Williams and I if if it was someone else, please forgive me whoever it was, but I think it was Brian Williams who was made an honorary white to join the all blacks and uh go to uh South Africa.
