She's only eight and um and so yeah.
So I think it's about just monitoring, maybe helping her recognise that she's actually repeating this behaviour, but uh simply so that she can maybe try to just do something different so she gets out of the almost like the habit, because it sounds like it's more just a bit of a habit, a bit like a behavioural tick.
Which is of course the really difficult bit and the bit as a parent that you agonize over sometimes.
So I have a lot of sympathy for parents who are in situations like that because you don't want to bring too much attention for fear that you might aggravate the situation um or that you might yeah, exacerbate it.
But at the same time, if you completely ignore it, then perhaps it might develop into something um more significant.
So yeah, it is it is very difficult.
But uh for a lot of things, and and this is not now to minimise um issues in childhood, but lots of things tend to be phases of some kind, or they tend to be just developmental or age related, and oftentimes if we don't make too much of a fuss about it, um it can shift and change naturally of its own accord.
So I do think there is a little bit of of watching and waiting at times, but then sooner or later if if something is becoming problematic, and that's often the guide for us, if it
become something that is distressing our child, if it becomes something that is getting in their way socially, for example, that it means that they're avoiding things or they don't no longer want to do certain activities that they used to do because it's causing them too much distress in whatever sense.
Um, that's when we might think, Okay, now now is the time to intervene.
Mm.
So if it is hormone related as as the mum um uh senses, then uh that is probably going to balance itself out in time as her hormone levels settle a little bit if she's just going through this big um hormonal push, perhaps puberty starting, and and that's certainly the case, I think, probably a little bit more for girls that puberty is starting younger and younger, and so eleven would not be in any way uncommon now to be
uh starting puberty.
So um so yeah, so again, th it's probably just about this uh yeah, maybe sitting back a little bit.
I mean i
And yet at the same time, what they have noticed is exactly what I've just said there, which is that there has been a very significant change and it has happened since she's gone back to school.
And so um it may be that there was just one simple comment that got made.
So for example, if she has developed breasts over the summer and has gone back to school and her body appears different and somebody commented on it, that could have been uh even though it might
Have been an innocuous comment, might have been something that has distressed her.
Again, something that even went under her own radar in terms of you know that she's not experiencing any sense of being bullied or being picked on, but just um, you know, maybe is now very self-conscious about something.
