And so you have to give him the level of trust when he goes out of the home, you know, when he's over with the girlfriend at her house.
You don't know what her parents are like in terms of, you know, the attitudes that they might have when he's out with his friends, when he's hanging down the street corner, when he's walking to school.
You know, you don't have control
those moments.
can do, except that you're not going to follow through in that particular consequence.
You're unlikely to cut the legs off them.
But what you can say is, look, if you continue to vape, then, you know, your pocket money or your allowance is going to be absolutely cut.
I'm not having you spending money on vapes, money that I'm giving you for, you know, what I thought was your role at lunchtime.

Ultimately, he's going to have to make a decision to stop because he thinks it's the wrong thing to do, not because he's going to get punished for it.

It's the same when it comes to road safety.
We don't expect people to not speed because they might get caught by a speed van.
We want them to not speed because it's the right thing to do because pedestrians and cyclists and other road users, other cars
to be protected from our speed and our danger.
And so it's about having that mindset that certain things are good and bad and I'll do the good things and I'll avoid the bad things.
And so that's the conversation to have with them.
