put tippy or janet lee or others through like weird just abusive strange scenarios to get these great and then people go well would the performance have been as good i think those people had that potential in them you could direct that in people you can pull that out of people in a way that is sound and healthy and i can give you a great example i did it on
the set of the film Prisoners, I was a survivor of, at that point, two very serious suicide attempts.
And here I was playing a character who's taking his life and doing it in the safe arms of a director who really took special care to create that environment is important.
And I look at animals the exact same way I look at humans.
And I've been on film sets and some people out there will laugh at this.
Even on the set of Ant-Man, the way in which the real ants were utilized in our set, there was a lot of care and thought that went into and the people who were there and handling them cared deeply.

He put so much of his own money into the support of organizations that care for animals from both wildlife to domestic.

But like I got to watch in real time while professionals coordinated with camera, with direction, with other actors, with lighting, with the studio, with the stage, the temperatures, and everyone was safe.
And everyone felt supported.
And at the end of the day, I think that's the best way to make art.
And I personally produced and wrote a film that there was a centerpiece to the movie that was very important to me, which involved a really horrendous practice that is common throughout all different corners of the world called cockfighting.
