I mean, what is nice is obviously with places like cricket grounds, people nowadays are very nice to me because there is this sort of golden rule that when you're playing, if you've had a good day, then they're going to be nice to you.
If you've had a bad day, for instance, they've paid to watch you get in when they're anticipating something rather better.
Well, then sometimes in the old days, we used to actually physically go out of the Lord's gates, turn right into the tavern.
So, I mean, you're in amongst them.
You would do.
Maybe not during a test match, but during county matches where there are fewer people to abuse you.
But, I mean, people are very good both ways.
And if they're, you know, especially if they had a few themselves before you get in, you know, someone can be very quick to criticize.
So you probably turn around and go somewhere else.
And actually, I mean, nowadays, the guys are, for all sorts of reasons, including mainly, of course, social media, the whole thing.
You know, it's much better to go somewhere else.
If you want a drink, you've got to have one quietly away from the madding crowd.
But in those days, we would just sort of risk it.
And you could be told to your face, well, you were rubbish today.
And you go, oh, okay, thanks for that.
