Still, you know, the bowlers were still bowling quick.
The batsmen were still hitting it miles.
And they were absolute shoo-ins to win that tournament.
And they had people, it must have been early 90s because the South Africans were back in.
And the irony was that South Africa put in a team with some of the great names that would have been even greater had they not been fired from international cricket for 20 years.
And so they were a bit long in the tooth and they played one game.
And I mean, I played one of my heroes, a guy called Graham Pollock, who was the most outstanding left-handed batsman of the 70s onwards and played till a ripe old age actually.
But they played people like Graham, probably his brother, Vincent de Bale, who played at Middlesex and all these guys.
They played one match, they could hardly get on the field the next day for the next one because they were not in that sort of same shape, whereas West India's going.
It just looked as though they were still 23, 25 and had never had a day off.
So there was something about them.
There was something absolutely awesome about them.
And Viv was outstanding.
Those multiple bowlers were all just still going strong.
People like Michael Holding now, who is just retired basically from commentary duties, one of the great men as well.
Great fun to be with.
Again, a superb human being, very honest about all his opinions and appraisals, very principled, a non-drinker.
which in the 80s was a revelation.
Weirdo.
We used to try and say, well, come on, Mike, you just have a... Because in those days, actually... Just trying to get him to drink.
