There was a guy called Sylvester Clarke who played at Surrey and was mighty quick.
I mean, he bowled me one of the few balls I've still not yet seen.
And took my thumb off one day and he hit me on the head and all sorts.
And Sylvester was a potent threat, but he did like a glass of rum or whiskey or anything.
So Beefy would take him out at Taunton on the Friday night before the Saturday game started.
And Sylvester the following day, he didn't recover as well.

I mean, it is.
I mean, it's very straightforward.
We played a game once in Holland.
An international 11 played the Dutch side in The Hague, in Den Haag.
We'd kind of flown in in the morning.
And the first thing, the opposition had worked this out.
The Dutch had worked this out.
When we got into the dressing room, the game about to start in 40 minutes, someone walked in the dressing room and gave Sylvester a bottle of scotch and a fried egg.
A fried egg?
Well, just a token breakfast.
An egg smeter, so ham and eggs, the rest of it.
And so Scylla's just quietly knocked off the bottle of scotch through the day.
So when it came to the crunch of the game at the end, with sort of 20 minutes to go and the game evenly poised, normally speaking, you'd throw the ball to Sylvester if he's fit.
