I don't think that Woody ever said that he was aware of the story.
But because there were, not by the two boys, but other people around who claimed to have seen UFOs at the time, and because vaguely tall, blondish men
smiling guy who keeps smiling seemed like a description of Indrid Cold.
This was tied in as an Indrid Cold sighting before Woody.
Now shortly after where all this high weirdness is happening in West Virginia, one of the daughters of one of the families that had seen the Mothman claimed to have seen this
man smiling, staring over her bed while she was about to go to sleep.
Because of proximity, and mainly because Kiel, the book, The Mothman Prophecy, ties these two incidents together.
Although, I'm pretty sure as I remember, the man that she said she saw
His main thing is he kept smiling and grinning and scaring her, which I get.
You know, somebody coming into your room, smiling and not talking, that's pretty disturbing.
But I'm pretty sure she didn't say he said anything, and he definitely didn't identify himself as Indrid Cole.
Now, Indrid and his extended family, he would bring children, would come and see...
Woody's family.
In fact, there's a story about everybody looking around waiting for his UFO to land so they can see Andrew Cole and he drives up in a Volkswagen.
And everybody around the house doesn't realize it's him.
And this is where, according to his daughter, again, we get more sort of this folklore legend.
Again, almost mischievous spirits more than aliens.
and where she says that there are certain spaceships that are flying by and that they have evil aliens in them, but that they didn't harm people, but they would come and steal things to inconvenience you.
And I don't think anyone doubts that they believe this.
