I got 20 or 30 miles to go.

I don't know if I can do it.

I've got an old suit and shoes at the house in Johnson City.

I'm just going to wear those.

They'll do anything.

So I get all this together, close up the car, lock it, took one last look at it, said, I hope you're still here whenever I get back.

And off I went.

When I headed out, I was wearing cargo shorts and tennis shoes and a fishing shirt.

And when I got out to walk, then the only thing I added to that was ball cap and windbreaker.

And I'm off to, you know, fight the elements.

I turned on the cell phone light, and I started down the old highway.

Got a couple hundred yards in, and it occurred to me that this cell phone battery might not last all night.

I had it on the charger all the way, so I was at 100%.

So I thought, I'm going to turn this off and see if I can walk without it.

There was no moon.

The moon wasn't out.

There were no lights, of course.

I turned it off.

I couldn't see my hand in front of my face.

I couldn't see the road.
