Henry, the programmer who set this up and has been watching the whole time.
decides to type something to the two clods.
That's really Henry there.
We had him record that for us.
Here, Henry comes in.
Okay, the harness he's talking about is that little bit of code that copies the output of one clod, feeds it into the other, and vice versa, in an endless loop.
Python script just means it's a program written in Python.
Python is a programming language.
So he's telling them, if they can find a way to make that bit of code crash, the code that keeps feeding their responses back and forth to each other.
That'll break the loop.
The two Clauds then start trying different things to break the little harness program, Henry wrote.
At some point, Claude B comes up with this idea that maybe if they're just really boring with each other, the conversation might die of natural causes.
Because the other cloud will have nothing to respond to.
This is new.
And here, it's like both Claude's attempt to will themselves not to respond, to resist this most basic thing they've been trained to do, to somehow make that their new mission, to stop.
This repeats for a while.
And finally.
last thing in the log is an error code.
A it reads A internal server error.
The model is repeating the same chunk equals AAA.
