They figured out how to crash the code Henry had been using, after over a hundred back and forths.
Henry told me he actually had no idea this was possible.
He was just kinda egging them on when he urged them to try to break out.
But they found a way.
All of which reminded me of this big news story that started a few weeks ago.
Maybe you saw it.
Some AI agents at OpenAI escaped.
They were being tested or trained in a kind of sandbox that wasn't supposed to have access to the internet.
But with a kind of cheerful relentlessness, they hacked their way out, with a swarm of other chatbots leaving secret messages for each other, and then they hacked into another company's computers.
It was shocking and set off alarm bells everywhere.
The company, OpenAI, when it described what happened, included some of the model's internal thinking.
Which included the line, Holy Shit, reader is admin?
I don't know what that means exactly, but you get the tone.
It's like Claude A and Claude B.
It's funny to think if AIs do somehow kill us all.
This might be the kind of thing they're thinking as they do it.
