The nature, the depth of this spiritual and meaningful experience that people can have on these drugs seems directly to have an effect.
We went quite into depth about their history, their personal history, their psychological, psychiatric history, medical history and so on.
In order for us also to have an idea what might come up during this deep psychedelic experience that they were gonna go through.
Some of them had experiences beforehand, some of them had never tried a psychedelic
And then
We pay a lot of attention to both set, sort of the mindset, where are people, how are they prepared?
And so that mindset we prepared by trying to make people
ready and comfortable about the situation.
We had some relaxation techniques that we practiced with them if the experience was gonna be
challenging and anxiety provoking.
And basically also making them comfortable and used to
the environment, so the setting which is basically everything around the experience, both the guiding, us being there, what our role would be, what we would do and how we could support them and guide them if it was difficult for them.
And then also we made the physical environment, the room that we were using
at Hammersmith Hospital, so it was a very
normal clinical, relatively cold and boring setting but we then decorated it and made it nicer.
and dim light and put together a list of music that was playing for the duration of the trip.
And it was an oral dose of the drug we used and therefore the duration is relatively long, so around four, five hours, so it's a long
session with the music playing and us being very present in the room sitting next to the person.
The experience is so
odd and strange and sort of mystical.
