We just have a target and a Housing Australia Future Fund and a 5% deposit scheme and a whole bunch of...
policies which you know you can debate the merits of each of those policies and i'm sure most of them are doing some good i think the housing australia future fund is a is a something that's going to you know really contribute to um social and affordable housing but there's no overarching plan there's no long-term plan saying hey our objective is actually to make what can we agree on we can probably all agree that we want housing to be accessible and affordable
How do we do that?
Each side of politics is going to have their different way of doing that.
But I've got a bill in the Senate that would force the government of the day to have a 10-year national housing and homelessness plan.
tell us what you're going to do over the next 10 years.
Sure, two years, it's good to know what you're going to do in two years, but I want to know what your long-term vision here is.
And I think there are definitely mechanisms that we can have longer-term thinking, even with a three-year election cycle.
So another one is immigration, which you can't sort of talk about housing without touching on immigration.
Again, we have no plan.
Like, there is no plan here.
We set this arbitrary number through Treasury, it seems, and then there's no actual mechanism of, no, there's very few mechanisms to actually bring that down.
And if we're not willing to have a conversation, okay, how big do we want Australia to be?
What are the skills we need?
What are the trade-offs in terms of infrastructure, impact on the environment?
We're just in this situation where you just have people fear-mongering and blaming immigrants.
So there's definitely ways we can do it.
It's just,
you just need a few more politicians who are willing to actually make it happen.
And I mean, I think all sides of politics have probably been, have fallen into this trap where we've, I think, really had this failure of imagination.
