He was, he's like, because I grew up in an environment where there's like no support.

So what the defense mechanism and the tool that he used was, he's like, I had to convince myself that my opinion about what I was doing in my life was the most important opinion.

And he literally, and he would cut everybody else out of his life that gave him support.

like counter evidence that hey you're not going to make it as an actor go back and watch the documentary on kanye there's like there was nobody around him that he was not going to keep you in your life if you said hey just be a producer there's that was a great kanye clip that you played one that i watch all the time it's a minute long it's called kanye west spazzing out this is before he put out his first album and he's the clip starts he's like hitting his hands he goes don't compare me

to any other producer rapper because at the time there was other people that started in production and didn't start a rap and he went over and over again he goes hey he goes you understand at one point my beats were whack dog he goes i taught myself how to make hot beats these are his words now he goes and it's the same thing with rapping he goes i don't know how to rap i'm going to teach myself how to do it that growth mindset and he goes and the clip ends and the great thing goes and i have a leg up because i hear my beats first

So that is a line from another rapper, this guy named NF, who's one of my favorite rappers.

And that reappears throughout not only the books I read, like all these books on history, entrepreneurs that I've read for my other podcasts.

But when I start sitting down and talking to some of the best entrepreneurs in the world, like I do for the new show, this came from Toby Luque, founder of Shopify.

And it was the most surprising conversation I may have ever had in my entire life, okay?

Because you go in, like, if you've never met somebody before, there's going to be some kind of, like, typecast, right?

It's like you got this German engineer who built a $200 billion company and one of the most successful technology platforms that's ever been created.

And they literally had to be supported by his wife's family at the time.

And so you think this guy's German engineer.

He's going to be super analytical.

And then you talk to him and he's all about intuition and vibes, for lack of a better word.

And his whole thing was just like, well...
