Yeah, the main idea behind trigger warnings is that they allow people to prepare themselves for distressing content so that the negative emotional reactions may be reduced.
And another idea is that they give people the option to avoid the content entirely.
So, for example, if I see a post on Instagram with a trigger warning saying, yeah, it contains violence, I just can decide, yeah, I'm not watching it.
But yeah, when it comes to the question, do they work?
Current research suggests that trigger warnings generally do not work as intended regarding their goals.
That's a good question.
And we thought about it and doing a study about exactly this question, because in reviewing research findings, we have found that there are many different versions and formulations and trigger warnings.
Some warnings simply state trigger warning.
