When you think about FIs leveraging faster payments for e-commerce, at some level, you might be cannibalizing your card business.
There's an issue of cannibalization.
I think what you're hearing is a self-serving interest from different parties.
Business users want to do it because it makes it easier for them to transact business.
FIs
may not want to do it because it cannibalizes some other aspects of the business.
But as I said, I'm not an expert here.
So would I call it an untapped opportunity?
I don't think it's untapped.
I think which wallet it goes to is the question.
Oh, definitely.
Definitely.
It has been a barrier and it's becoming less and less of a barrier now.
But when I started at Volante six years ago, I saw this, the same trend where banks wanted to adopt newer payment types
or wanted to modernize their existing payment system because their existing systems could not scale, were not reliable, were not flexible to modify, were very expensive to maintain, they were not even documented, and so on and so forth.
And the biggest barrier was the cost and the time it took to implement a new payment type.
And most of these FIs, the last payment implementation they did, whenever they did it,
they still haven't forgotten the pain they went through.
So that was a big barrier.
So when I came to Volante six years ago, the first role I had at Volante was head of payment as a service.
