And you sit there in the dark with different cultures, different languages, different people.
And they all sigh or move or laugh or, you know, hesitate at exactly the same time as they did in Dublin when the play initially opened.
And that's a that's a kind of a human magic you can't quantify.
Well, I mean, it's just so humbling.
It's so exhilarating.
And it's such a privilege because you get a little window into their life and their art and how they, you know, both having plays presented there and now making a play.
in Germany with German artists, because with Refuge, half the team are German.
You know, the director is Jim Culliton from Fish Amble.
The musician is Steve Wickham, who's a great Palomar and collaborates with me a lot in writing music.
And Matt Williamson is the choreographer and half the cast are Irish.
but half the creative team are actually German.
So it's quite extraordinary, you know, because there's this shared culture.
It's very different and yet it's exactly the same.
Well, they certainly do do something to the work.
And of course, with a lot of the translations, I don't speak Italian, I don't speak German, but I suppose I can feel it working by the response of the audience around me.
And what I always do is I go into a pub in the afternoon, I have a little drink for myself, I read the play in English.
So that it's fresh in my head because I might have written it 15 years ago.
And then when I go into the theatre, the language just falls away.
I get locked into the emotion and the tension of it.
And I actually gave that tip to my daughter who was going over to see my play in Chechnya and she was going,
