And when I was researching my play about 1916, I kind of went off this beautiful rabbit hole and started to read more and more about this brigade and thought, good, nobody knows anything about them.

I've heard so little about them.

And I was trying to find out who these people were.

And I could only find little snippets, like sometimes putting a play together, like both with Refuge and the Palatines and with Joseph Grace.

It's like a jigsaw.

You can find like little clues.

So and I was always struck, like you asked me about sitting in a room and you look at a person that you can see a person who sits in a suit that's all buttoned and they're holding everything in.

And you wonder what's inside.

What's the life that buttons?

butterflies out behind them.

So I began to conceive and create of this character called Joseph Grace, who was from Kells, County Meath.

And he didn't fit in.

He didn't understand why he didn't fit in.

But he meets a guy called Jack Bryan and he kind of falls in love with him without knowing that that's what's happened.

So he enlists into the British Army.

He ends up fighting in the First World War and then he ends up in a prison camp.

And then Roger Casement comes in and says, men of Irish birth, come fight for your real country.

And he kind of falls in love with him.

So he signs up for the Irish Brigade.

And kind of through that, I can tell the story about this Irish Brigade.
