That's what I kept wondering.
Who were they and what happened them?
There was only ever a tiny little group of about 45 of them joined up because most of them thought it was heinous to turn against the men they had fought with in battles.
They didn't quite have loyalty to the king, but they did have loyalty to each other.
So only a small group of idealists or desperados joined the Irish Brigade.

I mean, anybody would tell you when I was a kid, I grew up in Raffarnham near St.
Enders Park.
I mean, when other people were playing rounders, I was playing Henry VIII.
Do you know what I mean?
Like I was always devising things.
These extraordinary games, you know, out of history.
I used to kind of close my eyes and open them and wish that I'd end up, you know, in the GPO in 1916.
Like I was just full of it.
And then, of course, so I did a degree actually in history and English.
And then I found my way into theatre and I found my way into playwriting.
And I write a lot of contemporary plays.
But it was that commemoration period when I began to get commissioned.
