So, well, it says if you're 65 to 69 years old and you want $38,000 a year in retirement income, which is that medium level, you need $258,000.
In retirement.
So, yeah, I mean, all those small differences can make a difference in the long term.
What it comes down to, though, is you are really relying on getting to age pension age to be able to draw some money from the age pension, draw some money from super to complement that.
If you want to retire before age pension age, you need to be self-funded.
And so that means you need to live 100% on your own investments.
So, again, it comes down to choice and what you want your retirement to look like.
And I guess leading into those numbers with choice and as far, at the end of the day,
Like they are just guides and if everyone's retirement is going to look different because everyone's going to have different goals on what they want to do, like do you want to travel overseas every year or multiple times a year or are you more of a homebody that you'd rather stay home and plot around the house and the garden and, you know, spend time with kids or grandkids or whatever.
You know, it kind of just depends what you want your retirement to look like.
And so when we see those numbers on Choice and ASFA, they're just guides and it's important to really understand what is the assumptions behind those numbers because everyone's situation will be different.
So what investment rates are they using?
Is that aligned with what your expectations are or your risk profile can handle?
what is the income that they're suggesting that you would need to have in like, is that in line with what you're actually spending?
It is really common for me to see people coming up to retirement and they're spending a lot more than what those numbers might suggest.
And so it's around asking them, well, what's going to change?
Are you going to like drastically change your lifestyle or, you know, so it always just depends.
And I know everyone hates that saying, but it does.
I agree.
I think so as well.
