Because with all due respect, people do win wars. The United States won World War II. It made this world safe for freedom and democracy. We are now making it less safe for freedom and democracy by giving Russia all the cards that Donald Trump claims they have.
Very shameful display for all that to happen in the Oval Office, in front of the world and all of our allies who we need to stop Russia. And I think what honestly is most disgraceful is that throughout that conversation, that the president could not be clear. that Putin is a danger to Europe, to Ukraine, and to the United States.
Putin is an authoritarian dictator, and we need to call it like it is, and to embarrass Zelensky, who is taking Putin on right now, to belittle him, an ally, and our efforts in Ukraine.
Well, Shannon, I have, I mean, I have two problems with that concept. One, it just looks like an episode of The Sopranos, right? Give us your minerals or we're not going to help you fight a bloody butcher. I mean, is this really what we want the greatest country in history to be known for, for like, you know, some mafia thing? Look, we've always stood with the good guys.
We stood with Churchill against Hitler in World War I. We stood with the good guys. Even when we've gotten it wrong in Vietnam, we were standing with the good guys against the Viet Cong. In Iraq, we were going after Saddam Hussein. Now this president is standing with the bad guy.
He's saying Zelensky is the problem when Zelensky, with very few resources, is trying to stand up for democracy against a totalitarian butcher. What really worries me, Shannon, though, is what do you think President Xi is thinking? Because President Xi wakes up every single morning thinking, is today the day I go into Taiwan?
First of all, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, because as we've been discussing, we have to stop this reckless Republican budget from going forward. And that's going to be on the floor on Tuesday. Now, there are ongoing discussions being led by Rosa DeLauro, top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee. to see if an enlightened agreement can be reached in advance of March 14th.
And we'll see what takes place. What we do know is that the Republicans have the House, the Senate and the presidency. It is their responsibility to fund the government.

Public opinion matters. And the public did not give Trump a mandate to dismantle the whole chunks of the federal government. Gave him a mandate to kick the tires, check the dipstick and make sure that things are running well and efficiently. In that part, he has a mandate. But what Elon Musk is doing is way beyond any mandate that Trump could possibly realistically claim.
And we're going to fight that.
There's a difference between cutting waste, fraud and abuse and dismantling whole agencies. No one gave Trump. No one gave Elon Musk that authority. It is unconstitutional. It's unlawful. It is a violation of Article one. And we're going to fight it.

I got to tell you, people voted for lower egg prices, you know, not for a Middle East Mar-a-Lago. You know, people did not vote to send their sons and daughters into the tunnels of Gaza so that Jared Kushner and Donald Trump can build Trump Tower Gaza. That's not what they voted for. I mean, people want to talk about issues.
They want us to deal with issues that are going to impact their everyday life, lower the cost of living. And in the first weeks, we have seen nothing, nothing from this president or the Republican majority here to deal with that.
And look, you know, the agenda we're talking about, I mean, I'm looking at the New York Times here. Trump proposing takeover of Gaza as U.S. territory. I mean, do your constituents want to have their sons or daughters sent to Gaza to be in the middle of that violence? This is the guy who also now wants to invade Greenland. He wants to take over Panama. He wants to annex Canada.
He wants to now occupy Gaza. I mean, we have 42 million people in this country who are hungry. Whatever happened to America First? Whatever happened to helping people in this country? Whatever happened to lowering prices? And instead we get this. This is like a warmonger here. I mean, come on.

With the election behind us and considering it's now already the end of the year, how do you envision the future of Democratic Party?
On the Doge proposal here, should Democrats be more involved in this? Are you disappointed that Mr. Musk and Ramaswamy didn't come to meet with you? Do you think that the opportunities here, that their political appetite is bigger than their parliamentary stomach when it comes to getting some of these things done?
But does it worry you about the idea that they're doing this just with these two guys who aren't part of the government, who don't have experience directly in understanding discretionary, non-discretionary spending, and therefore should Democrats be directly involved and say, look, we don't want waste, fraud, and abuse, but... Democrats will, of course, have to be directly involved to the extent that there is any legislative aspect of this, and we will, by necessity, be engaged because it's clear that...
