As you heard in the proclamation, our 31 cities are the government's closest to the people and best poised to address the needs of our residents.

So what I would invite

Any municipality that you live in, as you hear, there are a lot of people that toil behind the scenes in our cities, and I'd like to ask for their acknowledgement.

It's not just the elected officials who are forward-facing, but there's a lot of city staff, and I want to congratulate the staff of the city of Fort Lauderdale for all they do and for being recognized.

I just want to give a brief uh update. podcast-host

Florida League of Cities was fighting many of the provisions of the bill till the very last day, and as you know, there's a lot of horse trading going on at the legislature. podcast-host

Um I just returned from the Florida League of Cities conference in Orlando and what we're hearing is there may be some appetite. podcast-host

I'm not hopeful, but I'm cautiously optimistic um because a lot of the legislators who voted for it did not realize the unintended consequences of this bill. podcast-host

So what I would urge everyone, um for example, the city of plantation is we've been undergoing um a revamp of our comp plan. podcast-host

Um and so it's put us in a position just like the Brownex works. podcast-host

So what I would urge everybody podcast-host

is before the session starts where our delegation is having their meetings, please talk to your delegation members so you can start to express to them not only how it's affecting your municipality, but how it's affecting the work we've done here in the council. podcast-host

Because we need to try to get ahead of this and try to hit some of these legislators as we go into session and try to get a glitch bill and get some of these provisions reversed. podcast-host
