I was joining one of the applause lines just to make sure that he hadn't gone over a page.

And that goes back to the Prince Philip line, which is, except the key element is keep your speech as short as possible.

Editing is the key to any writing.

And go back through every word.

It's almost like a comedian crafting a joke.

Remove as many words as you possibly can to make it easier for the audience to absorb.
