I'm working on this myself.
I think that sometimes antipathy toward billionaires and antipathy toward a perceived oligarchy can manifest as antipathy toward markets.
And that's where I want to get off the train.
Because in so many cases, let's look at housing.
The reason that California, say, isn't building housing doesn't have to do directly with the number of billionaires who live in California.
It has to do with the fact that in too many cities where people want to live and move to, we have broken the market signals.
We've broken the markets for housing by making it impossible for supply to meet demand.
And so there's some ways in which
what is sometimes called the needs of what is sometimes now called the working class, the needs of the middle class and low-income people are sometimes better met by markets than they are from the mere enlargement of government.
And seeing where we need more markets and where we need more government
That clarity is not provided by the word socialism or by the word oligarchy.
That clarity requires actually understanding what problem you're trying to fix and what tools actually fix that problem.
So I just wanted to say that.
So hard, hard pivot.
