But what we've now noticed, and the HIA, the health insurance authority data supports this as well, we've now noticed that the gap between the plans that fully cover these procedures and those that have the shortfalls, the gap has widened considerably.
So I think about seventy percent of people with health insurance now have these shortfalls on their policies.
Um and for some people they've no choice, they just can't afford the higher premium.
So they're being forced to take on additional risk, which is obviously regrettable.
But I suppose the key message with this though, Claire, is there's a lot of people now listening to this who never look at the renewal notice.
They just what we call auto-renew.
And I would say anybody listening to this now, your parents and your grandparents and your older family members, they're the ones
Who it's tortured.
They won't even look at it.
They just can't entertain it.
And they think by paying a higher premium
For the same plan, they automatically assume, sure, I must have the same cover.
And you can't make that assumption anymore.
So you need to sit down with them and just get out the documentation and just check and see if there are any changes.
And if there are, you need to engage with the insurance company straight away.
And if those changes are just unacceptable because you have a serious underlying condition, or maybe maybe you're facing a hip or a knee replacement in the next 12 months, well then you need to take steps now to protect.
Protect yourself, protect the benefit and and make changes and if you change your cover from renewal, then you won't be hit with a reduction in cover.
But if you also renew on the same planet
So here's the risk.
So you could have somebody who just rolls over on the same plan and they pay the higher premium and now they have a reduced benefit.
