Also, I have had no sleep.
I was on the red eye and they canceled the red eye.
It was the last flight out.
We slept on the floor of LAX after being locked up, incarcerated.
And when someone else is in control of your freedom and they can take it away, especially if you've done nothing wrong, it's not just a problem for me, it's problematic for our country.
I'm a soldier, right?
And as James Baldwin says, I come from strong peasant stock that built bridges and dug dams in the teeth of the most terrifying odds, achieved an unassailable dignity.
And so I come from that peasant stock.
And so as this whole week made me think about, where did that insistence come from?
And that came at the knee of my grandmother, who was my nanny growing up.
And she would walk around the house, and she would sing spirituals and fight songs.
And she would be cleaning, right?
And she'd be on that old trim line telephone that was yellow.
It was the color of the lemon yellow, just like on the Don Lemon Show shirts.

And she would have on that.
She'd have that thing and it'd be wrapped around the kitchen and she'd be singing and she'd be on the phone and then she'd hang up and she'd be singing.
