Uh it says in Proverbs, if you strike the fool, the simple learn wisdom.
uh if you refuse to strike the fool, if you refuse to administer accountability to the uh these people who are engaged in criminal uh behavior, uh then a lot of simpletons are gonna take away the wrong life lessons.
And that's exactly what's happening.
Yeah, sh so th uh too many people think of justice and mercy as though they're two billiard balls.
You know, you're gonna have one or the other, one will displace the other.
If you have mercy, then you have no justice, or if you have justice, then you have no mercy.
Uh and it's not in the biblical framework, it's not that way at all.
Uh Paul the Apostle Paul says in the book of Acts, if I've done anything deserving of death, I do not refuse to die.
Right?
He did not, he would not reject the penalty if he had deserved that penalty.
In a biblical, let's let's say, just to illustrate the principle, let's say you've got a person who committed a horrendous murder, was caught, was tried, fair trial, was convicted, everybody knew he was guilty.
And they're on death row, uh, he becomes a Christian.
Let's say
Say the chaplain leads him to the Lord and he becomes a Christian.
And let's say we have very good reason for believing that the conversion was genuine.
Okay.
Um a biblical marriage of justice and mercy would be for the governor who's also a Christian.
Be willing to come to the penitentiary to participate in a church service in which he and the condemned man both took communion.
And the governor had the authority to sign a pardon but refused to.
I'm not gonna sign a pardon.
