You need to look at your after-tax returns.

And so whether it is an investment bond you'd hold for 10 years, you look at what is the return across those 10 years, what is the tax rate?

Okay, maybe zero tax rate, but the return may be only 4% per annum.

Is it still worthwhile investing in high-risk stocks?

You've got to look at, you know, tax is one factor.

There's a heap of other factors.

There's market risk, everything that comes in.

I'll give you a story.

Capital gains tax that came in 1985 and manager for, I don't think Richard is alive these days.

So, you know, rest in heaven, Richard, he had a large portfolio of shares at that time and he made a significant amount of money

by the 1st of September, 1987.

And he was holding to the 1st of October of 1987, you know, thereabouts to sell because it was another new quarter of the CGT indexation factors, yeah?

How are you calculating that?

He was holding on and the market cracked itself, yeah?

It fell substantially.

Is that it?

So what you need to do is you need to factor in, okay, because you're preparing for retirement.

And so you need an X amount for a comfortable growing up.

You want to own your own family home.
